Progressive Global Commons (PGC) is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website(s), as well as our members and activists. Our Privacy Policy establishes how we handle the information we learn about you when you visit the main PGC website (
https://www.progressiveglobalcommons.org/), any PGC satellite website(s) or any of their pages (collectively "the PGC website(s)"). “PGC” refers to PGC staff, board members, advisory board members, cooperating attorneys, interns, volunteers, and consultants, all of whom are bound by law or contract to keep information they receive as part of their assistance to PGC confidential. Protecting the privacy and personal data of our visitors and members is of utmost importance to us. Protecting your privacy and your personal data is an important aspect of the way we create, organize and carry out our activities on-line and off-line.

Purpose Specifications and Data Collection
In general, you can browse the PGC website(s) without disclosing any information about yourself. If you visit the PGC website(s) to read or download information, we may collect and store the following standard technical information that is automatically recognized: the date and time, the originating IP address, the domain name, the type of browser and operating system used (if provided by the browser), the URL of the referring page (if provided by the browser), the object requested and the completion status of the request. This information is kept temporarily primarily to aid PGC in diagnosing technical problems, conducting site testing and defending against attacks on the site. We delete the information that may have been kept as soon as it is clear the information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was kept. PGC does not sell or rent donor information under any circumstances, and we do not share information without prior consent except as compelled by law. (See discussion below.)
Cookies and Other Technologies
As described above, we sometimes collect anonymous information from visits to our website(s) to help us provide better customer service. For example, we may keep track of the domains from which people visit and we may also measure visitor activity on the PGC website(s), but we do so in ways that keep the information anonymous. We use the information that we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different areas of our website(s), and to help us make our website(s) more useful to visitors. This includes analyzing these logs periodically to measure the traffic through our servers, the number of pages visited and the level of demand for pages and topics of interest. We collect the personal data that you volunteer upon registration as a member of PGC and order, survey, competition, or other forms. It is your decision whether to submit information to us, and how much information to provide. If you choose to become a PGC member we ask for your name, title, email address, city, state, postal code, and country of residence. We ask you to select a password, to build a personal profile, and we strongly urge you to upload a personal graphic.
For online donors and shoppers, we also ask for your debit or credit card number or for payment using Paypal. If you use the online
Commons Market, you are asked to provide personal information, such as a shipping address, necessary to complete your transaction. We are pleased to receive anonymous donations, but please note that your personal information is required if you choose to donate using our online form. We generally do not keep credit card information unless you choose to have us make automatic monthly withdrawals from your account for your donation.
If you choose to subscribe to our free electronic newsletter, we collect your email address.
From time to time, we may ask for personal information on portions of the site or affiliated third-party services, such as asking you to sign a petition, take a survey or participate in a contest.
If you invite another person to join PGC or to take action in one of our alerts, we will ask for that person's name and online contact information. We use this information to contact and, if necessary, remind that person that he or she has been invited to join PGC.
If you provide information for publication, such as suggesting a content source, an author, or a link, we may use your name to provide you with credit.
PGC's search capability is provided by one or more third-party search engines, which are currently Yahoo and Google. Information submitted to the search function is not collected by PGC, but it may be collected by the search engine provider, subject to the search engine provider's privacy policy. PGC may change the search engine providers from time to time.
While PGC endeavors to provide the highest level of protection for your information, we may disclose personally identifiable information about you to third parties in limited circumstance, including: (1) with your consent; or (2) when we have a good faith belief it is required by law, such as pursuant to a subpoena or other judicial or administrative order.
If we are required by law to disclose the information that you have submitted, we will attempt to provide you with notice (unless we are prohibited) that a request for your information has been made in order to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure. We will attempt to provide this notice by email, if you have given us an email address, or by postal mail if you have entered a postal address. If you do not challenge the disclosure request, we may be legally required to turn over your information.
In addition, we will independently object to requests for access to information about users of our site that we believe to be improper.
Although we make good faith efforts to store information collected by PGC in a secure operating environment, we cannot guarantee complete security.
Visitor/Member's Choice
Registering on our website(s) is optional. If you choose not to register or provide personal information, you can still use the PGC website(s). However, you will not be able to use all website functions or receive e-mail alerts. The PGC views the customer information that it collects as a valuable and confidential asset of which we take great care to ensure its safety.
You may choose to correct, update, or delete the membership information you have submitted to us by using the website or sending an email requesting changes to:

Individual Participation / Access
You can ask us whether we are keeping personal data about you, and you can also request to receive a copy of that personal data. Before sending you any personal data, we will ask you to provide proof of your identity. If you are not able to provide proof of your identity, we reserve the right to refuse to send you the personal data.

Children Under Thirteen Years of Age
Pursuant to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), PGC does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under thirteen (13) years of age. Upon notice that PGC has inadvertently collected personally identifiable information from a child under thirteen, PGC will take all reasonable steps to remove such information from its records as quickly as reasonably possible.
Security
We intend to protect the quality and integrity of your personal information. PGC has implemented technologies and security policies to protect the stored personal data of our users from unauthorized access, improper use, alteration, unlawful or accidental destruction and accidental loss. We will continue to enhance our security procedures, as new technology becomes available. PGC staff and processors who have access to personal data are obliged to respect the privacy of our visitors and members and the confidentiality of their personal data.
